The 52nd Annual Clinical Meeting of the Frederick A Coller Society in Ann Arbor is rapidly approaching. The dates of the meeting are October 18-22. This is the week following the American College of Surgeons. The meeting is starting on Wednesday this year. Jeff Punch is being installed as the first Jeremiah G. Turcotte Professor of Transplantation Surgery on Wednesday afternoon and this will enable Coller attendees to attend the ceremony if they would like.

Hotel:

The Four Points by Sheraton Ann Arbor will be the host hotel. It is located at 3200 Boardwalk (just off South State Street near Briarwood Mall). A block of rooms with special rates has been reserved. The deadline for reservations is September 15, 2006. The direct phone number is (800) 848-2770. There are additional rooms at the Courtyard by Marriott (800) 321-2211 and the Fairfield Inn (800) 228-2800. When calling, be sure to mention that you are attending the F.A. Coller Surgical Society meeting to receive the group rate. The welcoming reception and farewell brunch will be held at the Sheraton and there will be a hospitality suite accessible throughout the meeting.

Weather:

Fall weather in Ann Arbor is somewhat variable and unpredictable. High temperatures range in the sixties but may climb into the high seventies. Lows may dip into the forties. For those attending the football game, we would recommend coming prepared for both extremes.

Travel:

Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) is only 20 miles east of Ann Arbor. DTW serves as a major hub for Northwest Airlines with a new world-class terminal. NWA offers non-stop service from most major cities. Other airlines serving DTW include Air Tran, American, America West, Continental, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, Spirit and United. The hotel is easily accessible by taxi, shuttle bus (734-971-5555) and limousine (877-465-8000). Arrangements for the shuttle and limousine should be made in advance. The hotel does not have its own shuttle service. Transportation to all Society events will be provided so rental cars are not essential. For those of you who want to spend time on your own touring the city and surrounding area, rental cars will be desirable.

Newly Revised Spouse Activity for Friday, October 20, 9-11:30AM!

The images below are sample projects that we will be creating with Allison Ward from Pretty Nifty Art. Projects include: 4 dessert plates, 4 wine glasses, 2 glass candlesticks, 1 vase (either a short hurricane or a tall cylinder). Each project is $32 and shipping is available. Questions: contact Maria Grupe (734-647-9984).
